Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and with good reason.

Starting the day with an energy-boosting meal that keeps you active and full of promise all day is a delight.

However, it may be the most difficult to keep up with if you are like me. Mornings can be hectic with all the rush to get everyone ready for work or school.

I love oats, they are fiber-rich and healthy. Being the health-conscious person that I am, I’m always on the lookout for healthy recipes.

So, I came across breakfast oats Smoothie and fell for it. The fact that it is filling also makes it one of a favorite morning go-to recipe.

It’s especially healthy to have an oatmeal smoothie for breakfast because you get to add more nourishment than you would a regular oats breakfast.

These recipes are a delight and you get to add your own choice of fruits, healthy fats, milk or spices.

I always look out for tips to help feed such kids because I have one of them, (and I was actually one while growing up, winks) so I know how difficult it can get.

Some tips that could help you get past them having to complain about the color of smoothies is by disguising the color of greens with darker colors.

You could toss in a handful of blueberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, and Raspberries or any fruit that can hide the original green color.

Something else is to serve such smoothies in non-transparent cups with cover and a straw so the only experience they get is the delicious taste.

If you have picky eaters though, they would love this too.

Do well to check if anyone in your home is allergic to some of the ingredients and replace them with a substitute.

Banana Oats Smoothie

  • 1/2 Cup of old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup of plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 Bananas frozen chunks
  • 1/2 cup of coconut milk (regular, almond, soy or any low-fat milk)
  • A handful of almonds
  • 1/2 cup of fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 tablespoon cinnamon

How to prepare;

  • Pour the oats in a blender and blend dry until you get a powdery consistency
  • Add the remaining ingredients and blend until fine and creamy.
  • Serve immediately.

You could also add a 1 teaspoon of peanut butter and honey to taste for variations

Oatmeal Blueberry Smoothie


  • 2 Bananas frozen chunks
  • 1/2 cup rolled or instant oats
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 4 medium dates seeded (honey or maple syrup)
  • 1 cup homemade Kefir or Hemp milk (almond or regular milk)
  • 2 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed

How to prepare;

  • First, pour the oats in the blender and blend till you get a powdery consistency.
  • Then add the remaining ingredients and blend on high. The flaxseed will make it thicker, so if you prefer a lighter smoothie, you could add water or more milk.

Oatmeal Strawberry Smoothie

You could replace the banana in this recipe with a little more frozen Strawberries if you want Smoothie without bananas.


  • 1 Banana Frozen chunks
  • 2 cups of frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup rolled or instant oats
  • 6 Dates seeded
  • 1 Cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 Cup coconut milk (almond or Homemade Kefir)
  • 2 tablespoon of peanut butter
  • 1 Teaspoon of cinnamon

How to prepare;

  • Grind the oats to a powdered state in a dry blender
  • Then add the remaining ingredients and grind for some minutes, pulse and keep grinding until smooth and creamy.

Pour into glass cups or covered opaque cups with straws for the picky eater and serve immediately.
